Orbán’s Fidesz found who to blame for the denied EU funds
The interest of left-wing MEPs lies in political attacks and in denying the Hungarian people access to European Union funds, Fidesz MEP Balázs Hidvéghi said in Strasbourg on Tuesday.
Speaking to Hungarian journalists after a European Parliament debate on freezing funding for Hungary under the conditionality mechanism which links EU funding to the rule of law, Hidvéghi said left-wing MEPs were “bothered” by the fact that Hungary and the European Commission had reached an agreement on EU monies.
While the war in Ukraine and the related “flawed European sanctions” have led to skyrocketing energy prices, soaring inflation and the threat of unemployment and a severe economic recession, “extremist left-wing MEPs are continuing their ideological blackmail and campaign, their accusations and lies” to thwart the agreement between Hungary and the EC on EU funds, Hidvéghi said.
Wartime and economic problems caused by sanctions call for unity, respect towards one another and cooperation, he said, adding that the bloc should enact decisions that serve the interests of Europeans rather than divisions.

Balázs Hidvéghi has a very warped view on why EU funds were withheld. Fidesz is the ruling party, therefore they are responsible and no one else. So easy to point the finger elsewhere, they’ve been doing it for years…… It’s a question of how much longer some Hungarians will believe their distorted views.
Hard to believe this government. First they said it was the LGBT community. When that did not work, it is now anyone, and I mean anyone, who is not in charge is to blame. What a bunch of sissies. They can’t even stand up like men and admit that they messed up the country.
It’s Soros, the illegal immigrants, the Brussels Bureaucrats, Leftist Elites. Always another Enemy. Always “fighting”. Always someone to blame – our Politicians…
Lol @ Nortbert. I love your answer. so true. It’s anyone BUT Fidesz, for sure… Fidesz should try to find solutions to get these funds and comply with EU, instead of pointing the finger at others
I thought they wanted the funds to raise the teachers’ salary? Isn’t it urgent??
There was a target on Hungary since 2010 when companies owned by German conglomerates were taxed. Since then, Germany managed to convince previously colonizing countries such as Belgium and Holland to put pressure on the country. This is odd, Hungary was the country that fought on the side of Germany as well allowed East-German citizens to cross into Austria. Opening the border to the East-Germans, allowed future reunification of the country. Germany was and is upset because Hungary refuses to be the EU’s puppet. The bottom line, Hungary must never trust western Europeans and if possible, leave the EU.
I see five comments here. Totally agree with the first four.
I would expect most Govenrment employees to echo their employers’ views, especially in an electoral autocratic country. 😀
@Maria: Hungary is struggling without EU funds and you want Hungary to leave the EU? Look at the state of the UK now and it is a much stronger economic power than Hungary. So good luck! You need EU or maybe Russia/China/India/Turkey to survive. Hungary cannot survive on its own.
Hi @maria… really like that you remind us that Hungary fought on the side of Nazi’s in WWII. Hmm… Germans are rather ashamed of WWII so perhaps it’s not the best example of cooperation? As for everything else… FIDEZ = Corruption. The EU without Merkle has finally said enough to packing the pocket’s of Viktor, family and friends, but yes I do hope Hungary leaves the EU… better for the EU and better for Hungary. Remember Hungary wanted to join the club but then didn’t want to play by the rules… better to leave the club.
It’s great to read so many comments made by well-informed persons (person?).
I think we could leave Türkiye out that equation because it has a HUGE inflation problem of 83 pc – 87 pc (at the end of September quarter) and a CPI of somewhere around 173 pc. Having said that, Erdoĝan is good at extracting huge amounts of money out of the EU (to “stop” 😉 😀 illegal immigration at it’s borders) and because of that, it now has a new ally to curb Sweden and Finland from joining NATO asap.
As for India. India’s, inflation is not too bad at c. 7 pc, but it’s CPI is 174 pc. Hungary could never rely on money from India to chip in. What appears to be clear/clearer is that all five countries have some kind of bond with Putin. India is in the Quad Alliance, but is almost totally reliant on Russian arms. All in all, I’m not at all surprsed to see Hungary mentioned with those four countries.
…Way down the track, after one or two more Orban election wins, we could see another Belarus in the dead centre of freedom-loving Europe.
Happy to know that there is at leat one other person who could forsee what will happen to Merkel’s fave after she retired.
